Now that the warmer months are here, it’s time to think about heartworm preventative and flea control. Summer brings along many diseases that can be fatal to your pet. Heartworm is transmitted by mosquitoes. All dogs should be on a monthly preventative. If you haven’t had your dog tested yet, please do so. Another problem that occurs during the warmer months are fleas. They not only annoy your pets, they carry worms. Please have your pets on a once a month flea treatment. Ticks are also a problem. If you are planning to camp or hike with your pet , it’s important to apply a flea and tick product to your dog. Again, each of our hospitals have many products to choose from. We are also offering many rebates on these products as well.
KEEP YOUR PETS SAFE THIS SPRING & SUMMER !
Remember to please be careful with open windows this summer. Make sure all windows and doors have screens on them to keep our pets safe. Also, please do not leave your pet in a hot car. The temperature inside a vehicle is hotter than the temperature outside. It doesn’t take very long for your pet to overheat. Too many accidents have happened. If you can, please leave your pet at home where it is cooler.
It is also important to never leave your pet unattended near uncovered pools, even if they can swim. Chemicals that are found in swimming pools can be harmful if ingested, or can irritate their skin. Also, certain forms of algae can be toxic. Algae can be found in ponds or other bodies of water.
Be careful with lawn pesticides. All contain chemicals that may cause serious illnesses for your pet. Be careful when walking your pet on lawns that were recently treated.
